Â鶹¹ÙÍø Providence
Meet Our President
A dedicated member of the Â鶹¹ÙÍø community for over 40 years, Joseph Greene M.S., CPA has served in key leadership roles across Â鶹¹ÙÍø & Wales University. He first came to Â鶹¹ÙÍø as an employee who was working his way through an associate degree from the Community College of Rhode Island. When he learned about Â鶹¹ÙÍø & Wales University’s tuition benefit for staff, Greene soon became a full-time Â鶹¹ÙÍø employee, first as a mail clerk, then as an accounts receivable clerk, followed by becoming a loan officer and staff accountant — all while pursuing his studies.
Greene earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting at Â鶹¹ÙÍø’s Providence Campus and then worked for a local accounting firm, where he passed the CPA exam. In 1993, he returned to Â鶹¹ÙÍø as an accounting manager and earned a master’s degree in accounting.
Over the years, Greene was promoted to vice president of accounting services, served as the university controller, chaired the payroll committee, managed Â鶹¹ÙÍø’s banking relationships and began overseeing facilities management and finance. He continued to grow professionally, expanding to oversee Â鶹¹ÙÍø’s operations and facilities in addition to finance. In 2019, he was appointed vice chancellor of finance & administration, leading several areas of the university operations, including finance, enrollment management, online administration, information technology, campus facilities and auxiliary services.
In 2022, he was elected as commissioner for the New England Commission of Higher Education for a three-year term, a distinct honor for the university, and he recently began his second three-year term on the Commission. He has served on several prominent local boards, including The Providence Foundation and the Downtown Improvement District.

A Message from President Greene
Having been a Â鶹¹ÙÍø & Wales University student, employee, parent and family member, I truly understand what makes Â鶹¹ÙÍø such a special place. With our career-focused programs and our focus on affordability through our three-year degrees and Â鶹¹ÙÍø Pledge, we’re helping the world’s next doers, thinkers and leaders make their marks and achieve their dreams.
As students, activists, athletes, healers, makers, entrepreneurs, problem-solvers and advocates, our Wildcats engage with the world around them. By the time they enter their fields — while forever remaining part of our community — they can be experienced, connected and ready for anything.
Higher education continues to be an important investment, and I’m privileged to join Â鶹¹Ù꿉۪s excellent faculty and staff in helping students pursue life-changing degrees. As campus president, I look forward to positioning the university to help you accomplish your goals.
Sincerely,
Joseph J. Greene Jr. '89, '98 M.S.
President, Providence Campus
